Kulgam, June 12: Adverse weather conditions accompanied by strong winds caused damage to a residential house and several apple trees in Matibugh area of Yaripora in South Kashmir's Kulgam district on Thursday.
According to local residents, a large Chinar tree was uprooted during the windstorm and fell onto a house belonging to Mohammad Ismail Bhat, son of Abdul Aziz Bhat, a resident of Sheikh Mohalla, Matibugh Yaripora. The incident resulted in damage to the roof of the house and also affected a number of nearby apple trees.
Speaking to reporters, the house owner said that the losses caused by the incident are estimated to be between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh. He stated that he has already submitted an application to the concerned Tehsildar seeking compensation for the damage.

The affected family has appealed to the district administration to assess the losses and provide appropriate compensation at the earliest.
Meanwhile, officials from the concerned department visited the site soon after receiving information about the incident. The team conducted an inspection of the damaged property and assessed the extent of the losses, officials said. The assessment is expected to help facilitate the compensation process in accordance with established procedures.
Several areas of Kulgam district experienced strong winds on June 11, leading to damage to trees at various locations. No injuries were reported in the Matibugh incident.
Local residents have urged the authorities to expedite relief measures for affected families and ensure timely assistance to those who suffered losses due to the adverse weather conditions.
