A vehicle met with an accident on Saturday at the Yaripora bridge near the main town area in south Kashmir’s Yaripora, after reportedly losing control and plunging into the stream below. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle at the time of the incident, sustained minor injuries and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Eyewitnesses said the accident occurred due to the narrow width of the bridge, which has been a long-standing concern for commuters in the area. “The bridge is too narrow, making it difficult for vehicles to pass safely, especially during peak traffic hours,” a local resident said.
Residents also claimed that this is not an isolated incident. According to locals, several similar accidents have taken place at the same spot in recent weeks. “At least four vehicles have fallen from this bridge in the past month alone, causing injuries and significant damage,” another resident alleged.
The recurring incidents have sparked concern among the local population, who are now urging authorities to take immediate action. Residents have appealed to the District Administration, (R&B) Department, and local MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami to address the issue.
They have specifically demanded the widening of the bridge to prevent further accidents and ensure the safety of commuters. “If timely measures are not taken, more lives and property could be at risk,” locals warned.
Officials have not yet issued a formal statement regarding the incident or the demands raised by residents.
