Tragedy Strikes Week After Engagement: Two Siblings Drown in Jhelum River in Anantnag's Bijbehara
Anantnag, April 13: Siblings drowned after accidentally slipping into the Jhelum River at Padshahibagh area of Bijbehara in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, official said.
He said, the Siblings have been identified as Majid Ahmad Malik and Shahid Ahmad Malik, residents of Jabalipora.
The duo lost balance while bathing sheep near the riverbank and accidentally fell into the river, after which they went missing, he added.
The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom across the area, particularly as Majid Ahmad Malik had gotten engaged just a week earlier, making the loss even more devastating for the grieving family and relatives.
Soon after the incident, a police team from Bijbehara, along with local residents, launched a massive rescue operation to trace the missing siblings.
Efforts were still underway at the time of filing this report, officials added.
