Kulgam Police Arrest 36 Drug Peddlers in 18 Days; P/S Qazigund Tops with 22 Arrests

Kulgam: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir campaign, Kulgam Police have arrested 36 drug peddlers within just 18 days during intensified operations across the district.

According to officials, the anti-narcotics drive led to the registration of several FIRs under the NDPS Act, along with the recovery of significant quantities of contraband, including heroin, charas, cannabis, poppy straw, and cash linked to the illegal trade.

Police Station Qazigund recorded the highest number of arrests, apprehending 22 drug peddlers, highlighting its key role in dismantling drug networks. Other police stations, including Kulgam, Qaimoh, and Devsar, also carried out successful operations as part of the coordinated effort.
Investigations into the cases have revealed both backward and forward linkages, exposing organized and inter-district drug syndicates. Several accused individuals were arrested based on these connections, while vehicles used for transporting contraband were also seized.

In addition to arrests, police destroyed illegal poppy cultivation in Qaimoh and took strict action against the misuse of controlled medicines. A medical shop in Devsar was sealed for violating mandatory norms.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulgam, Sh. Anayat Ali Choudhary (IPS), reiterated the department’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against drug peddling. He emphasized that sustained operations will continue to dismantle the entire narcotics network operating in the district.

The SSP also appealed to the public, particularly the youth, to stay away from drugs and urged citizens to share any information related to drug trafficking. He assured that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential.
Kulgam Police, he added, remain steadfast in their mission to eradicate the drug menace and ensure a safer, drug-free society.
