Light Rain, Snowfall Likely in Higher Reaches; Weather to Improve After March 21: MeT

Srinagar, Mar 18: According to the Meteorological Department, intermittent rainfall and snowfall have been recorded across several parts of Kashmir Valley since Wednesday morning.

Director of Meteorological Centre Srinagar, Mukhtar Ahmad, said that as earlier predicted, a brief wet spell is expected between March 18 and March 20, bringing light rain in the plains and snowfall in the higher reaches.

Speaking to SKN, Mukhtar Ahmad said that intermittent light rain has already started in many parts of the valley, while the upper reaches are witnessing snowfall.
He further informed SKN that there is also a possibility of moderate to heavy snowfall in the higher reaches of the Chenab Valley and adjoining mountainous areas of South Kashmir during this period.

In the plains of Kashmir, rainfall is expected to continue intermittently. The MeT department has also warned of thunderstorms, hailstorms and gusty winds in some districts during the ongoing wet spell, which may temporarily affect normal life in certain areas.

However, giving a positive outlook, the MeT Director told SKN that weather conditions are expected to improve from March 21 and remain generally stable until March 26.

“After March 27, the weather may again turn erratic,” he said while speaking to SKN, adding that there is neither any major wet spell nor a prolonged dry spell expected during the remaining days of March.

Meanwhile, authorities have advised travelers and residents in higher altitude areas to remain cautious due to possible snowfall and slippery road conditions.
SKN will continue to provide timely weather updates from across Kashmir Valley.
