The current weather system is expected to bring intermittent spells of light rain and thundershowers to most parts of the UT today and tomorrow.
Wind Warning: Authorities have flagged the likelihood of gusty winds (40-50 KMPH) and isolated hailstorms at a few places.
Temperature Trends: According to the latest data, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 15.9°C (nearly 5 degrees below normal), while Jammu stayed warmer at 28.8°C. Gulmarg remains the coldest recorded station with a minimum temperature of -1.5°C.

The Week Ahead: Clearer Skies on the Horizon
After the current western disturbance passes, the weather is expected to stabilize significantly:
April 20–23: The Meteorological Department predicts generally dry weather across both divisions. This four-day window will likely see a gradual rise in day temperatures, offering a respite from the damp conditions.
April 24–26: Another minor system may bring brief spells of light rain or thunder at isolated locations, though no major activity is expected during this period.
Safety Advisory for Residents
Given the warning for lightning and high-speed winds:
Avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles during thundershowers.
Farmers are advised to postpone chemical spraying of orchards during the rainy periods of the 18th and 19th.
Commuters on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway should check for official updates regarding road conditions, as rain can trigger minor slides in vulnerable areas like Ramban and Banihal.
